Benefits of fish oil products from Carlson Labs.

There are many manufacturers of health and nutritional supplements. With the large number of people who are looking for ways to live a healthier life and have healthier bodies, it is not surprising that the number of these manufacturers is continuously growing. Among the most trusted names in nutritional and health supplements is Carlson Labs. They have been making high quality health products for more than 40 years now.

Among the products that have made Carlson Labs popular are their fish oil products. Fish oil is basically the oil that can be derived from the tissues of oily fish. They supposedly contain omega-3 fatty acids which provide a lot of health benefits. Carlson Labs has been among the top manufacturers of fish oil supplements and is the only brand whose fish oil products have no detectable mercury levels. Below are some of the numerous health benefits of fish oil.

  • Cancer prevention. The fatty acids found in fish oil have been shown to help in reducing the risk of breast, colon, and prostate cancer. Studies show that these omega-3 fatty acids can slow cancer growth, particularly that of breast cancer.
  • Antidepressant. Feeling down? Then take fish oil supplements. Research shows that fish oil has been shown to prevent and alleviate depression. This is because omega-3 in the blood stimulates production and easy transport of serotonin which is an anti-depressant hormone.
  • Lower cholesterol. High levels of cholesterol are associated with a lot of medical conditions which include heart disease and hypertension. The American Heart Association recommends fish oil supplements to help reduce cholesterol levels.
  • Eliminate joint pain. If you suffer from joint pain like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, taking fish oil supplements can help provide pain relief.
  • Reduce inflammation. No matter where you have inflammation in your body, fish oil can help reduce it. If you have lupus, thyroid inflammatory disease, or psoriasis, your condition can be alleviated by fish oil supplements.
  • Healthier skin. There is no need to keep on searching for the perfect skin product because fish oil supplements can provide your skin with essential fatty acids that will help make it healthier. Among the benefits of fish oil to your skin are oil production regulation, increased hydration, reduced acne, and fewer wrinkles. Fish oil can also prevent lines, wrinkles, and permanent skin damage which can be caused by UV rays from the sun.
  • Weight loss. If you are looking for a natural and healthy weight loss supplement, then you might want to consider taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil promote weight loss and increases metabolism.

However, you can only get the fish oil benefits listed above if you take high quality fish oil supplement. You can get genuine Carlson Labs fish oil products as well as various discount supplements like iron supplements from HealthDesigns.com.

little girl, go make those great big plans

At first it was just a catchy tune to me. But the words are something else: inspiring.

How uplifting for the self esteem, especially for young girls {girls of any age, for that matter}. So many girls are bewildered right now with the pressures of the world, the uncertainly that holds them back.

But indie singer-songwriter Minday Gledhill has this message: dream your dreams, take the chance, put your mind to it, yes you can…

Read the lyrics right down till the end; then listen to the song. Enjoy! I did.

Mindy Gledhill: Whole Wide Word
I’m gonna walk a hundred miles
I’m gonna whistle all the while
If that’s what it takes to make me smile
I’m gonna walk a hundred miles
I’m gonna run right up this hill
Summer sky or winter chill
If I gotta take a break I will
But I’m gonna run right up this hill
I wanna hold the whole wide world
Right here in my open hands
Maybe I’m just a little girl
A little girl with great big plans
I’m gonna go and take a chance
I’m gonna learn to ballet dance
Learn a little something ’bout romance
I’m gonna go and take a chance
I’m gonna live a crazy dream
Impossible as it may seem
Doesn’t matter what the future brings
I’m gonna live a crazy dream
I wanna hold the whole wide world
Right here in my open hands
Maybe I’m just a little girl
A little girl with great big plans
I wanna hold the whole wide world
Right here in my open hands
Maybe I’m just a little girl
A little girl with great big plans
You tell me, “don’t try it”
I’m warning you that I won’t buy it
All failure is fleeting
I trust it always has its meaning
I wanna hold the whole wide world
Right here in my open hands
Maybe I’m just a little girl
A little girl with great big plans
I wanna hold the whole wide world
Right here in my open hands
Maybe I’m just a little girl
A little girl with great big plans

And me? I am but a little girl, but my plans are not little and I am ready to take that leap of faith now.

rest, recreation and christmas nears!

It’s been a while but I think I’ve got my groove back! I’ve had a great week dedicated to R&R and the me-time is exhilarating! I’ve still got to blab about the details in another (read: longer) post, but early this week I flew off to Manila and partied with awesome mommy bloggers then headed off to Bohol to party some more with the tarsiers. It was a definitely a fun-filled week and I’m guilty as charged for enjoying a few days off from my adorable but rowdy kids.

It didn’t take long for me to miss them though. Christmas bells and music filled up most evenings out on the town and the thought that the eve of this merry occasion was barely a month away made me go back to my mental gift list, my kids filling up most of the who-to-gives. I’ve got the little ‘uns on a list for toys (can never go wrong with that one!), clothes and shoes. I’ve added a few to the list like new school stuff and since we recently did a little home redecorating, I was thinking of matching the bedding to the paint and decals. Some quality wool underlay perhaps, along with new quilts and pillows. Deals Direct has a wide selection of printed bedding so I am confident I will find what I want in no time. And since I could certainly use new sheets myself, I might as well be on the look out for what would look great in the master bedroom as well.

And so the list goes on and on… and as soon as the Christmas bonuses come in, it’s going to be a busy list indeed!

and the cycle begins… again!

Or so it would seem. It’s November 1st and New Year resolutions are early. Let the weigh in begin!

simple cleansing recipe for better health

I’m no health expert but I’ve incorporated into my daily routine a little ritual that I attest has helped me feel better overall. Two words: water therapy. I’ve been doing it for quite a while now. It takes a little bit of getting used to though. I remember my first attempts at gulping down glasses of water in one sitting and I couldn’t take it. Eventually, my body did.

How To Do It

This natural form of therapy starts right after you get up. You can relieve your bladder but that’s about it, so save the tooth-brushing and bathing for after.

42-16057547 Proceed to drink a liter of water. That’s around 4-5 glasses. Drink your water slowly; it’ll be very painful to gulp it down. If you are just starting out, rest for about a minute in between glasses. Your tummy will get used to this exercise eventually. After two weeks of morning water drinking, increase your intake to 1.5 liters.

After downing your water dosage, refrain from drinking anything else (ex. juices, coffee) nor eating for an hour. When your time is up, you can eat breakfast like you normally do. Throughout the day, drink enough water.

Downside: Frequent bathroom breaks. When you begin this treatment, expect the need to urinate up to four times in an hour.

Benefits of Water Therapy
The con can be overlooked considering how you’ll be feeling after consistent water therapy. You’ll find keeping hydrated helps with good and healthy digestion, increased energy, helps you deal with stress better, keeps skin healthy and glowing, among others.

42-16075103 How water helps the body is by washing out toxins, helping our organs perform at its optimum. Nutrients from food are absorbed better and fresh, clean blood is distributed more efficiently. Our body is an amazing machine (for lack of a better term) and God has provided the natural resources to help us keep it that way.

Some people swear that water therapy can cure ailments. I myself started this therapy after an officemate recommended it to us all. I am fortunate not to have serious ailments that require dedicated medication (although at the rate I’m abusing my health lately… oh no, I don’t wish it!) but I noticed that I get sick less often. I am prone to tonsillitis (my doctor had already recommended tonsil removal and I am still afraid) but I find that sore throat does not visit as much as well. Of course, I credit this to a balance of healthy eating and regular exercise (but oops on the last two lately).

Based on what I’ve dug up, the claims to the ailments that the miracle liquid can prevent and cure are numerous, some of which are:

  • Fatigue
  • Arthritis
  • Heartburn
  • Diabetes
  • Migraine
  • Constipation
  • High blood pressure
  • Tuberculosis
  • Stiff muscles.
  • etc.

A body that is well hydrated also helps fight depression and control emotional outbursts . You may not know it but you may not actually be hydrated enough and the lack of water may contribute to not being able to handle our emotions well.

Before You Start
It is highly recommended you ask your doctor to learn more about treating a certain ailment or incorporating this therapy into your lifestyle. Water is good for the body and is a great way to detoxify, but you will also need expert opinion to guide you and assess your progress.

It’s working for me. I asked a doctor-friend about my regimen and she said I was doing fine. And I feel more than fine! Well, I have better days more than I have bad, that’s for sure. But yes, you can actually drink too much water and that isn’t good either. We’ll talk more about this soon. In the meantime, I’m off to drink a glass.

candidness with mr. ingat, john lloyd cruz

Passion for his chosen craft, coupled with careful choices, has helped propel John Lloyd Cruz into one of the most bankable actors the Philippine entertainment industry has seen in years. A review of a few of his works in the movies and on television brings back vivid memories of the characters he has portrayed: Popoy in One More Chance, Andrew in Dubai, Armando Solis in I Love Betty La Fea, Miggy in You Changed My Life, and who can forget Mateo in Imortal? In these roles, John Lloyd is non-existent, he morphs into who he plays. One does not get very far in this diverse and very interesting field without such skill, recognized even by award-giving bodies in the likes of FAMAS, PMPC, FAP, Urian, ENPRESS Golden Screen, as exemplary.

Of course, it helps too that he’s easy on the eyes, with boyish charm to boot. He isn’t YES! Magazine’s Most Beautiful Star 2011 for nothing. Box Office King, acting awards, modeling stints, and one of the most beautiful stars in the country… how does he?

How Does He?
He attributes this to good health, among others. And to be healthy, one needs to go through safe and careful regimens with everything that affects his physical and mental being. Something as seemingly small as a headache can already affect the outcome of his day, getting in the way of his career and personal life. Not good if that happens. He doesn’t take just any prescription for paracetamol though. John Lloyd is careful in his choices with meds, which is why he only takes Biogesic for headache and before the onslaught of fever and flu.

It wasn’t a very hard decision for Unilab to enlist him as the brand endorser for the Philippines’ No. 1 brand for headache, Biogesic Tablet and Biogesic for Kids. You can add Mr. Ingat to his titles, too. Neither was it hard for John Lloyd to agree to be the face of Biogesic. He has been a Biogesic user for years and swears by its safety and surety in relieving headaches. His “Ingat” line is well remembered, a constant friendly reminder to all of us to take care of ourselves always.

Celebrating 5 Ingat Years in Bacolod with Biogesic
For John Lloyd, when you truly believe in the brand you endorse, you don’t think about being bound by time, so it was a pleasant surprise to him and Unilab that their partnership had already reached a fruitful 5-year mark. To celebrate, Unilab and John Lloyd visited key cities and towns around the country to share the day with fans.

A few days ago, Team Biogesic was here in Bacolod City for the much awaited Fans Day at SM City Bacolod. Before that, Unilab and ABS CBN Bacolod organized a little meet-up with the blockbuster star at the premier L’Fisher Hotel {scrumptious selections, as always}. Invited media, bloggers and pharmacy reps got cozy and candid with John Lloyd at the presscon, and we got to know him more for he was very game in answering questions we threw at him.

A few Lloydie tales:

On upcoming movie and television stints: A third installment of A Very Special Love with Sarah Geronimo and another movie with Angel Locsin is in the works.

On his Ingat tagline: He loves that expression because it’s very Pinoy, something we always say to our friends and family.

On being a role model, especially to the youth: It’s important for stars to be careful in their decisions because fans look up to them. He believes that they have responsibilities and a big opportunity to shape the youth, which is why he is careful in the career decisions he makes.

On keeping himself healthy: He used to bike a lot, but he got too busy. And while he isn’t a regular gym goer, he does some core exercises.

On roles he has yet to try: He wants to portray as many characters as possible, in various levels of acting depth.

On what his role portrayals have taught him: He is very attached to the characters that he plays, he becomes them, he breathes them. When he is done with a project, it takes a while to shake off his character. Internalizing each role has helped him understand the complexity of an individual and the importance of friendship, love, tolerance…

Photobucket

On his message to the youth with regards to the social problems of today: He agrees the youth of today is very detached from the social problems going around them. They are more attuned to social media applications like Facebook and interactive games, which is sad. He thinks that they should at least be more aware of what’s going around, more emphatic of the issues an ordinary mamamayan goes through. For Lloydie, it keeps him grounded to know what’s happening in the country and around the world.

On balancing love and career (girlfriend Shaina Magdayao was not spared): Going strong and steady, he assures. “You don’t find time, you make time. If you say this day is for the lady, you make it happen for the lady.”

On the recent CCP art tussle: He acknowledges art in its various forms, being an insider of the industry of expression. However, he would rather keep mum about his opinion so as not to step on either side’s toes. {Wish he said what he was really thinking out loud.}

On frustration: Singing! Something that he is no good at, he claims. He rendered a sample after much prodding, though. A lame attempt at the Wonder Girls’ “Nobody But You”. {What? He himself said it was horrible.}

On causes: He has no charity foundation of his own he and Biogesic worked together on a notable advocacy campaign that he hopes will be continued: Ingat Pasada with Mike Enriquez was a friendly reminder to all drivers to take care of their health so that they can be safe on the road.

Photobucket
Adding to this, UNILAB Brand Manager, Nikki Godino, says that they hope to roll out their Ingat Pilipinas safety campaign on a nationwide scale. They are working with government agencies so that the transport sector can be educated on the importance of road safety. A survey they conducted reveals that around 80% of accidents are caused by human error. Examples: texting/ eating while driving, not using seatbelts, disregard for road rules (attitude), sickness or headache, etc. For drivers of our public utility vehicles (PUJs), it is all the more important to prioritize personal health because it is their livelihood and the lives of passengers are dependent on them too. This is the cause Biogesic wishes to spearhead.

To cap the event, it was an enjoyable luncheon with John Lloyd. I found him to be very mature in his manner of answering, proof that he is no brain-dead matinee idol. Nikki also shares that it wasn’t hard to choose John Lloyd as endorser. He is very maingat in his life decisions, just as Biogesic wants us to be maigat in ours. That’s good. No headaches = 100% work performance. Ingat!

I’m linking up with Vix for a nice getting-to-know-you exchange through here new meme: Nice To Know You [somehow I can't add her badge]. This week’s prompts are Papemelroti inspired:

Where do you find tranquility?
There’s this ritual I do (that sadly hasn’t been done in a while) early morning that I like to call my Walk with God. It started when I was still in college and I got my first real euphoria at actually getting up to go out and exercise. Walking/jogging was as simple as I could muster back then and I decided that the perfect time for me was to do it was at sunrise (so that I’d be free of excuses the whole day). I’m a morning person myself, but 5AM was such a forsaken time! But I did it, I set my alarm, prepped and dressed and headed off to the sports stadium near my home. You have to climb a long flight of stairs to go up the stadium then go down another way to get to the tracks so you can imagine my huffing as I went up the first time. But the sight that greeted me was breathtaking. Rays of light streaming thinly through a sea of thick white clouds. It was still a little dark, it was only 5:30AM after all. As the minutes ticked by, the clouds pushed farther away and the whole field below was slowly bathed in gold. When I eventually made it to the tracks and started my walk, I found myself talking to God in my mind. And He seemed o be answering back, too. From then on, three or four times a week, I’d get up to jog, witness the sunrise… and Walk with God. It’s the only time of the day when I truly have my alone time, when I can map my day or week ahead and when I can tell him what’s truly in my heart, no holds bar.

Where do you eat like a horse?
House! It has the works. It’s my pig-out place where no one will judge.

Where do you zonk out?
I’d say the bed but I can sleep pretty much anywhere. There are peeps who can’t sleep properly if it’s not on their own bed and hubby is one of them. But me, I can be sitting on a bus, the car, at a sleepover and I can let out those zzzzs just as easily. It’s one of the things about me that hubby finds weird. Of course, nothing beats your own bed. Oh yeah, lights? On or off, it doesn’t matter to me. I’d sleep soundly either way. Yeah, hubby gets freaked out about that too.

Where is your jungle?
I’d like to say my craft room, but I don’t have one. Boo. I don’t even have a place I can call a permanent craft corner. But I do have a craft box and when I’ve got a day to lose it, I’d be happily elbows deep into paper, paints, glue and whatever else. And while I’m a scrap hoarder, I’m not any good at cleaning up after and organizing though. I tend to stash everything and I tell yah, it’s a jungle in there. Sorry, no pic. I’d hate for you to see it. You’d think I was very attached to my dustbin.

Where does your joy come from?
Cliché, but family is my top answer. They also happen to be my frustration at the same time, with all the hair-raising, blood-curling stunts they pull. But when the six-year-old brings you ~ out of the blue ~ a from-the-heart handwritten letter of only five lines but took forever for him to write, or when the three-year-old whispers “I love you” in her sleep, or when the better half comes home a day earlier than expected (he works an island away)… how can your heart not feel joy?

Bonus: What does it reveal?
That it’s nice to know me! Hah.

I’d like to know you too. Link up at this link party and I’ll hop over.

PS Saturday draws near! You know about the Colorful Weekend party right?
xoxoxoxo
PPS Oh yes! Y’all know eco-bags are the rage, right? I have this really, really cool one. It’s got a pretty patchwork design in front, pockets inside to hold small items… not your average eco-bag. WIN IT! Yep, I’m giving it away. {It’s brand new, by the way.} AND I’M THROWING IN A BONUS TOO. Oho, you have to go see what I’m talking about. A lot of entries already. Join in! Entries accepted till August 31. I pick the winner on September 1. Sooo…
